You know the game already – everybody does! You have seen if in movies and heard about it from friends and family. Everybody knows and talks about the round wheel at the end of the green table. Now it is time that you try to play roulette!
Roulette is a relatively simple game to learn, and once you know the drill, the roulette offers you many enjoyable and rewarding hours.
The Game of Roulette
In a game of roulette the casino is represented by a croupier who spins the roulette wheel, calculate winnings and losses. The croupier pays out to the lucky ones and withdraw the bets of the less fortunate. You play against the casino and thus has no opponents, as in many other casino games.
To start a game of roulette the croupier asks you to place any bets on the table. Once bets are placed, the croupier starts spinning the wheel and throws in the little ball in the opposite direction of the spin. The croupier then announces that no more bets can be placed before next round. And while everyone is watching in excitement the ball jumps around in the wheel before it finds a number to land on. Once the ball is lying still the croupier shouts out the number and the winners and losers are found and chips are changing hands across the table.
Roulette Game Details
The roulette itself is divided into 37 or 38 numbered pockets. These pockets are exactly high enough to capture the lively ball as it jumps around. Each pocket is numbered between 1 and 36 and – depending on which version is played – one or two zeros. The numbers are either red or bleck, while the zeros(s) are always green.
The table is just an important part as the wheel in a game of roulette. And it is at the table you place your bets. The table is divided in rows and sections. In the middle of the table you will find the numbers 1 to 36 in 12 rows of 3 numbers topped by a single zero (European roulette). Betting on these numbers are referred to as Inside Bets.
Around the rows of numbers you will find more fields which you can also place your bets on. These bets are called Outside Bets. An Outside Bet is – for example – a bet placed on whether the ball will end on a black or a red number. You can also choose to place your bet on the group of numbers 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36, and you can bet on an entire row along the length of the table. Finally, you can bet on whether the next number that the croupier shouts is odd or even.
The well-known roulette table usually has room for 6 to 8 players and for clarity, each player gets his own color chips. If you play for example, a $ 5 table, each of the chips count for 5 §. At a $ 5 table, you are allowed to bet more chips but you can not bet less, for example, $ 2. If the minimum bet at the table is $ 20, you can split your bets and reach the minimum that way. Wagers on Outside Bets must be basically meet the minimum requirements for itself and not in combination with other bets.
The game of Roulette is considered a slower game than many other games in the casino, and it is therefore also expected that you as a player does not rush yourself by betting without permission (or even worse change your bet just before the ball falls into place) and that you respect both the game and the croupier. Roulette is a gentleman’s game.
Playing roulette you must always remember that the ball has no memory. If the ball has landed on a red number 3 times in a row, the probability that it will land on a red number during the next spin is just as great as in the previous spins. The roulette wheel is completely open minded, has no memory and no predetermined payout percentage.
